Basically, I hold onto his shoulder straps and we try to get stable before 8,000ft. Man we suck. But we were belly to earth earlier than usual and had a good 30 seconds to float around. Goal #2 is to separate, each turn 90deg, turn back, and re-dock. Sounds simple enough, but we haven't done it yet.

This time we very nearly did it, but we both overcorrected our fall rates and narrowly missed eachother -- Jerry being 6ft higher than me on our best attempt. Eh. Needs more practice.

Signed by: Jerry
</folder>

It did not rain. We were going to 10k and John Stephens convinced me to do a two-way with him. I explained that I have no skills, but he said that without jumpsuits, nobody has skills. This whole jump was videoed and he thinks it may have turned out well.

Anyway, this was one of the few two-way jumps I can think of where I was really in the game. I was flying around! I need a lot more practice, but I was able to do things like fall faster, slower, move around. I suspect John was doing most of it, but ...

Anyway, fun times.

Signed by: Jerry
</folder>

Never had this happen before (ironically, I just started using that new Germain pilot chute packing method): pilot chute got stuck. I had to go back to try and grab it again. The rule, of course, two tries or 2,000 ft... I ended up thinking, "Shit, this is my only shot and then I have to go for the silver handle. Hrmph." I didn't panic or anything, but I did burn another 600ft fucking around trying to find that thing again.

Signed by: Kyle
</folder>

Basically I was having too much fun to be bothered with something like rolling around. It was fairly cloudy and I had observed that the clouds had a bottom at about 5kft. I didn't really know what the dude before me was going to do, but I knew he was flying toward the thickest part of a cloud that I was likely to hit also. I tracked my ass off to fly over the cloud (orthoganal to the jump run of course) and watched as he decended through. I hit some wispy edges of the cloud and they raced past revealing my 150mph, leveled out, watched Jason B open (more than 500ft away), and then opened myself. What fun. Words cannot describe clouds racing past... they really can't.

Signed by: Fred
</folder>

Technically speaking, I needed to have an instructor watching since it was my first jump of the year, but I wasn't aware that was happening. Rather than doing a clear and pull, I basically just decended to my usual altitute and popped. Bart called this "burning" it. Fred opened almost immediately and flew around forever.

Signed by: Fred
</folder>
<folder nosig="1" title="3y8mo3w ago (2008-08-31) | alti: 5000 ft / 14 seconds | eq: Spectre 190">
Maneuvers: hop

This was fun. I got out and carefully watched Matt K. do a little 90 degree turn and deploy. Then I watched him fart around for a while trying to decide on a sane approach. The winds were utterly random, so ultimately they weren't doing what he thought (or for anyone else that day). It looked to me like there was a nice breeze on his approach, so I followed him only to discover there was basically no wind at all and I going to overshoot horribly. So I did a couple s turns... Then, and I've been meaning to try this anyway, a sharp-ish 90 degree turn at about 500ft. They tell me this technically counts as a swoop, but I have my doubts. I did come in a lot faster than I'm used to, that's for sure. Nothing remarkable though. The remarkable thing was standing up a crosswind landing for the first time in a while.

(unsigned)
</folder>

Believe it or not, it was the first time I've ever spotted for others. Jerry was happy with the spot. We just did solos since this was his first time back in the frey after that knee(s) injury(s). Curiously, I believe the air was very dense. I fell basically forever and got stable to pull, checked alti and I was still at 6,000. WTF? Fell for another 30 minutes, looked around, checked alti, 5,000. WTF? I waved and pulled around 4,000 basically out of boredom. Whatever, it was still super fun. On our landing, Jerry and I were dangerously close. We used head nods to communicate and, after discussing it later, we were both very clear on what we each were doing. I cut in front of him a little, but he turned out of my burble and we landed nearly side by side. It was pretty cool. I wish it was on DV tape.

Signed by: Joe
</folder>

You can't see this in the video, but bill hooked his heals around my legs (gay?) to increase the flippery. What a nut. This was to complete my b-license requirements. I technically completed the requirements, but man I suck. Bill reports that I was, "all over the sky" and there was some laughter while watching the video. Heh. I was turning to the right slightly during the opening (to avoid jamming the left leg again). Nice. I exited the aircraft a little earlier than I probably should have, for horizontal separation reasons, because I wanted to watch the impromptu three way Joe, Carrie [sp?] and Kyle set up. Kyle spent much of the jump on his back, which was mysterious, but he explained on the ground that he falls slower that way. Once he fell past them he flipped over to watch the jump from below. Heh. They tried to get me into it too, but I refused. I really would like to install my AAD before I start doing 4-ways from 4200 ft.

Signed by: Matt D.
</folder>

The pilot really wanted us to get out south of the airport even though the winds were coming from NNW. Joe refused and turned the pilot into a cloud. He got a really good spot out of it actually, but I wish to say that getting out of an aircraft while inside a cloud is unnerving to say the least. I watched joe disappear in the fog, he had about a 30 degree elevation angle and I imagined we'd have enough horizontal separation (plus the fact that I imagine he opens lower than me). Turned out my assumptions were right. How the two jumpers after me had *any* idea where they were is a total mystery to me. I suspect they simply took it on faith that they were in the same city as the airport... Had a bit of a hard opening on this one. I suspect I was spinning to the left slightly -- since I couldn't see the ground for reference. Huge bruise, left leg only.

Signed by: Matt D.
</folder>

I am a total failure at backflips. I also tried a poised exit. It's been a few years, and I wanted to see if I could still do it. It went flawlessly, so I guess I can. On this jump I noticed that my awareness is quite a bit higher than it used to be. While my parachute was deploying, I looked up to the right and watched Jerry dump. I jumped with Jerry, Seth and Jim. It was a pretty fun time until the very end. Three of us hooked up, which was a new thing for me and pretty darned exciting. One of us dropped past and continuned falling like a brick. We broke at 6k and I tracked away from my neighbors and was about to deploy when I see the low man open DIRECTLY below me.

He couldn't have been more than 200ft away and I continued tracking as hard as I could. Horrifying really. I simply don't have the skill to figure out where everyone else is and stay safe on a 4-way. Had I been jumping with D license jumpers, two things would have been different. 1) we would have all 4 hooked up. 2) the low man would have tracked so far away he wouldn't open directly below me... or perhaps it was my fault for tracking over him? I really don't know for sure and the instructor I asked was unable to give more than general directions for the future.

... and that's why, no more 4-ways with A licensed jumpers for me.

Signed by: Seth
</folder>

We never hooked up, but that didn't stop it from being a really super fun jump. We "flew" the exit, with me in my usual place on the wing strut. I was able to more or less hold me heading, but ended up quite a ways up over him. I was happy to discover that I can easily increase my fall rate significantly. Matt also started to come up to me. Suddenly, the situation looked like a 100ft swoop, so I hammered out some deltaswooptrack shape and headed down to him. It's somewhat alarming to approach someone at 50 mph, so I slowed down a lot early... In any case, it's quite a rush to be able to control my fall rate somewhat. What a fun time.

Signed by: Matt K.
</folder>

Well, I had a hard time getting out (last) because one of the others had their arm in the way. I found a way to fit, but it was trickey. There wasn't really a good way to hold on, so when we went, of course, I was left behind (by 100ft or so). I discovered that I can increase my fall rate quite a bit and ended up below them -- somewhat closer -- then decreased and ended up above them again. I didn't know I could do that.

Matt waved us off a little early, so I tracked and fell a while... I was seeing that clover-leaf of us131 and i94 up ahead. Hrm. First thing I did under canopy was point toward the airport. I didn't really expect to make it back. At about 500ft, I was still out across the road. I did NOT want to land in corn, but I mean, what can ya do? ... I was moving at a pretty good clip and decided to risk it. I finally did make it across the road at about 350ft. It was a rediculous cross-wind landing, but it was at the airport (technically). Hah, fun.

Signed by: Todd
</folder>

We were able to dock, 360, and re-dock. I'm told this counts as two points, which is super. Craig said he falls fast, so I was somewhat concerned that I'd have to arch really really hard or something. Instead, I ended up below him a few times and was somewhat frustrated to discover that I really couldn't figure out how to go up to him. He had to come down to me. I'll have to work on that I guess.

Signed by: James
</folder>

I always forget how much fun this sport really is for a flying fanatic like myself. I had a bit of anxiety right up until I got on the aircraft -- first jump of the year and all. Then everything was familiar again and I just enjoyed thew view. My plan was to fall stable to make sure I remembered how everything worked, but I abandoned that plan soon after leaving the aircraft.

The stress really kicked in at about 2,000 ft though. I didn't recognize anything on the ground. Back and GLSD, I knew basically how far apart everything was, so I could make a lot of adjustments to my landing pattern based on those familiar landmarks. I actually landed precisely where I had intended to land, but it was confusing to get there.

It was an all around great time -- aside from being desperately alergic to the grass.

Signed by: Joe
</folder>

OK, the plan: 1. star, 2. accordian, 3. star, 4. accordian, 5. star. Yeah, whatever. I got sorta close to the star (finally). Well, more precisely, the other three jumpers came down to me. I had to finish the last little bit; but, when I got there I got really excited and (presumably) curled up into a little ball or something. The other three shot away (straight up) at high speed. They were coming down, I guess, but we were getting low, so I turned and was about to leave but Cole shot down to me like a torpedo and grabbed my arm. So cool. Yeah, anyway, there I was at 3500 trying to remember how to track. Yadda yadda 1700. The protrac records everything a little low, so I'm sure I had a square above 2000 -- since I was stowing the slider while the alarm was going off -- but still a bit low for my tastes. Holy crap the whole thing was fun. Ex post facto, there were many tips/lessons from Craig. All helpful stuff.

Signed by: Cole
</folder>

I appear to suck really bad at this relative stuff. I did finally hook up with Jesse at about 6kft, but Susan wandered off and, to be honest, I didn't see Rich until I opened. It's a little embarassing. But I technically made it over to nick. He was aware that I was side sliding a bit and decided not to rotate, so I would have a reference. Nice. Then I really stabbed it and made it over to him. He reached out to grab my grips, but missed ... and we were at 5,000 ft. I waved and pulled while he went zipping away down to the 2500s (or wherever those guys open). That was the last of my freefall licensing requirements though. It technically counted! Huzzah! He was easily a hundred feet away, but that's still a bit close, since he shot past me at a hundred miles an hour. I asked him about his delay after I got out and he said he counted to 5. The landing was shockingly terrifying. Around about a thousand feet the ground started to look really scary -- this is a result of my injury. I'm told the sensation goes away eventually. The landing went pretty well. I landed where I meant to and didn't get hurt. I was so nervous saturday, I never did work up the nerve to leave the house. I did make it down there sunday. The first drive in, I was very nervous. Actually I only went about a quarter of the way before I turned back for my shoes. Grrr. I wasn't all that nervous by the time I got there... but it lingered a little.

I just got my reserve repacked and I asked Dennis if he had also repacked the main. Dunc did that for me last year, so I didn't know. He didn't repack it. That became my first task. I was a little afraid I wouldn't remember how to do it, but it all came together. And for the record, it wiped out whatever nerves I had left. The whole ride up, the exit, the fall: relaxed. I practiced all this in my head -- including a bunch of emergency operations. I even did my superman exit perfectly... no rolls, flips or anything else.

However, the landing went all to hell. I hadn't really practiced my landing in my head and I didn't do any practice flares or anything. Dumb. I went downwind way too late, but it turned out ok -- other than almost crossing in front of Rich and Jake. I flared too early, then too hard, went back up a little THEN LET UP ON THE TOGGLES, then hit some hard clay at 30 mph!I don't think I could have crammed more mistakes into a landing without trying to swoop. *sigh* It could have been worse. The ache in my shoulder reminds me to think about my landing before I'm at 1200ft.

Signed by: Jake
</folder>

I climbed out boldly and nearly fell off. Grabbed the handles and hung. Fun. Under canopy there was suprisingly heavy wind. I did some left-to-right-to-left turns and stalled the canopy. Two end cells closed very briefly.
</folder>

He was flying his new "green weenie" wingsuit. He had the stupidest grin on his face for his backflip and then immediately grabbed air (pointed straight down) and fell down like he knew what he was doing. Once he picked up some steam, he flew away like an little airplane. I got out and watched from a couple thousand feet up. It looked an awful lot like he flew a huge u-turn around the airport... confirmed on the ground. Very cool.

Signed by: Kyle
</folder>
